How we work
Calgary Public Library Foundation was established in 1999 to enable individuals, businesses, and community organizations to participate in the development of Calgary’s library system, supporting present-day needs and preparing for the future. Funds raised by the Library Foundation do not replace the Library’s core funding, but instead serve to enhance and expand the sector-leading collections, programs and services available at Calgary Public Library.
On average, 10,000 Calgarians signed up for Library cards per month in 2025. In total, there are more than 815,000 Library members in Calgary—that’s more than half of the community. Calgary Public Library Foundation exists to ensure Calgary Public Library and its programs, services, and spaces are high-quality, barrier-free, and meet community needs as they emerge and as identified in the Library’s Strategic Plan.
